The well-known secret to online success
By P.J. Eichten
Search engine optimization ( SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via natural (organic) search results. Typically, those sites that are in the top locations on search engine result pages receive vastly greater traffic than those sites that rank low or don’t show up at all. SEO is a crucial aspect of the continued success of almost every high-ranking website on the internet.
While SEO is very important, the goal of creating a website should be to add value to the online community and provide unique, relevant information. If your goal is to make some quick cash, there are ways to achieve that. However, many of the tactics necessary for get-rich-quick schemes will eventually become obsolete as algorithms improve and policing by search engine companies increases.
Google, Yahoo, and the other search engines work hard to provide searchers with the most relevant answers to their queries, implementing filters and modifying their algorithms to reward page relevance and penalize pages for artificially generated rankings.
To ensure long-term online success, I recommend focusing a large effort on developing and maintaining the most useful content and resources possible. Build for the end user, while keeping the concepts outlined in this e-book fresh in your mind. These guidelines will simply set you on the right path to maximizing the return on your online efforts.
An internal element that remains crucial to a site’s efficacy and efficiency is a proper navigation structure that encourages deep visits, patronage, and purchases. And, like the saying goes, content is king (for visitors and search engines both). Once your site is running smoothly, focus on solid branding and network building to develop your online presence.
This e-book describes the basic methods and theories that are commonly practiced by SEO’s today. My goal when researching and developing this book has been to present the past, current, and future trends of SEO while emphasizing what I believe are the most important factors to focus on when building a site. Much of the information herein has held true for many years and should continue to serve as the foundation of SEO for weeks to come.
